- Eat 2 serves of fruit each day
- Eat a variety of different coloured vegetables each day
- Eat the skin of fruits and vegetables where possible
- Select wholegrain breads & cereals
- Choose reduced fat varieties of milk, cheese and yoghurt
- Choose products labelled “no added salt”, “low salt” or “reduced salt"
- Trim fat from meat and remove the skin from chicken prior to cooking
- Choose healthier cooking methods such as grilling and stir-frying
- Limit take-always and eating out
- Snack on unsalted nuts
- Avoid or minimise alcohol intake
- Drink water
- Exercise regularly: Being physically active helps the heart to become stronger
- Quit smoking: Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen in your blood, and damages the walls of your blood vessels
